Top 5 Funny Ladies to Follow on Twitter

Conan, Colbert, Joel—all ridiculously funny men with ridiculously funny tweets—usually do a pretty good job of keeping me entertained. But recently, while thinking about how much I love Tina Fey (something I do on a frighteningly regular basis), I decided to seek out female comedians who tweet. And, not surprisingly, I found tons of smart, funny women to follow. So if you’re like me and covet clever tweets like Cartman covets KFC, check out these five witty ladies:
1. Mindy Kaling (@mindykaling)

This girl is awesome—not only does she write some of the best episodes of The Office, but she also just snagged a book deal. Plus, she has great taste in TV, she just got braces, and she shamelessly gushed over Robert Downey, Jr. on a recent Leno appearance. Yep, she’s my hero.
Recent Tweet: A good way to trick your boyfriend into marrying you is to ask "hey, want to renew our vows?"
2. Caprice Crane (@capricecrane)

Occasionally I read entertainment news, but it’s not something I go looking for. I would have heard about the Biebs even if I didn’t want to (okay, I kind of wanted to). But Caprice, novelist and TV writer, manages to quip about anybody and make me care—or at least laugh. I also like that she always produces original tweets (usually sans twitpics) on a lot of Hollywood happenings that I wouldn’t know about otherwise.
Recent Tweet: Avril Lavigne & Brody Jenner got "Fuck" tattooed on their ribs. They're going back tomorrow to have the "ed" added.
3. Ana Marie Cox (@anamariecox)

She’s a journalist more than a comedian, but Ana Marie’s tweets keep me entertained and informed. If you don’t always have time to keep up with the news on the Hill, Ana Marie—founder of the political blog Wonkette and now a correspondent for GQ—will give you an insider’s look at anything from the latest Supreme Court nominee to her recent adventures at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
Recent Tweet: Hotel hairdryer weak enough to be the GOP national agenda.
4. Sara Benincasa (@SaraJBenincasa)

Based in NYC, Sara doesn’t tend to filter anything, especially when it comes to sex—and this makes for some hilarious tweets. Busy lady Sara co-hosts “Get In Bed,” a talk show on Cosmo Radio and has a one-woman show called “Agorafabulous!”, but mostly she tweets about what goes on in her everyday life.
Recent Tweet: Goodnight, sluts. You are all beauteous creatures of the night.
5. Alison Agosti (@Just_Alison)

LA-based Alison (of the "Live, from a Shoebox" podcast) tweets about farting in the car and then worrying about the driver coming back and smelling it. I love Alison’s tweets because she seems to say everything that you’re thinking but that you don’t have the balls to say out loud.
Recent Tweet: If I casually mention my volunteer work it's because I want to have sex with you.
Looking for more funny girls to follow? Some of my other favorites are Chelsea Handler (@chelseahandler), Rachel Maddow (@Maddow), Sarah Silverman (@SarahKSilverman), Joselyn Hughes (@joselynhughes), and Jen Kwok (@jenkwok).
