KINGA PHILLIPS

Born in Poland and raised in Oklahoma, Kinga Phillips might seem an odd match for Al Gore, but she has developed a loyal following as the anchor of the most watched show on Gore’s Current TV cable channel: Google Current.
A broadcast news show that bases coverage on the most popular Google searches of the day, it’s the show that probably best illustrates the channel’s attempt to bring the sort of timely, user-generated news found online to cable TV.
When she’s not on the air, Phillips is acting in films (she had small roles in Austin Powers: Goldmember, Torque, and Tomcats, and has a substantial role in an upcoming indie film called Leaving L.A.), writing children’s books, or scouting projects for her fledgling production company. In the midst of it all, she found time to dish on her favorite time wasters and news stories with Venus Zine.
TIVO'D AND WAITING
1. Planet Earth: It’s pretty recent but probably
the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen.
2. Dirty Jobswith Mike Rowe: What a great concept for a show that’s entertaining and honors all the crazy jobs out there ... that I’d like to have.
3. Dateline NBC: To Catch a Predator: It’s sad, funny, frightening, entertaining ... wow.
4. Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations: I love the guy — he’s kind of an asshole, but it makes him that much more authentic.
5. Not a particular show, but I love Fuel TV. I fall asleep to it every night. Especially the surfing.
FAVORITE FILMS
1. Anchorman: I can quote every line.
2. Little Miss Sunshine: The scene with her talent performance is quite possibly the greatest thing
I’ve ever seen.
3. Beetlejuice: It’s old. I love it. Never been anything like it before or after.
4. Indiana Jones series: It’s old. I loved it as a kid and always will.
5. Shrek: It makes me happy.
BEST NEWS ALL YEAR
1. First female and first black presidential candidates in the history of our country!
2. Viral video craze. Youtube. Lonelygirl15. It’s amazing.
3. Steve Irwin’s death. Tragic. I loved him, but I feel that that’s exactly the way he wanted to go.
4. Mel Gibson and Michael Richards — what on Earth were they thinking?! And does rehab really help? It’s an interesting
situation.
5. The aftermath of Katrina. I was in New Orleans for the first Mardi Gras post Katrina (2006), and the 9th Ward was unbelievable. I have never seen destruction like that. Mile after mile of abandonment.
