Not everyone is blessed with the natural do-it-yourself craftiness required to carve balsa wood or cultivate rich ikebana arrangements. Lucky for us, ReadyMade Magazine contributing editor Tina Barseghian has come to the rescue. This information-packed guide to getting started down the road to personal fulfillment through satisfying spare time is a great resource for those looking to find a hobby or get more information on their extracurricular options.
Though the claim "This book can save your life" may be a bit of a stretch, as Miguel Figueroa, M.D. states in the foreword, the entertaining compilation of both weird and wonderful hobbies offers plenty to choose from and touts the fact that hobbies promote healthier lives, both mentally and physically. Organized in a clean and simple A-Z format, the book offers the requisite "What you'll need" as well as resources and anecdotes and advice from self-proclaimed experts.
As for what's listed; there is pretty much anything you can dream of doing in your downtime, from astrological charting, barefoot hiking, bat house building, calligraphy, and candle making to ice sculpting, scrap-booking, and whittling. With so many hobbies to choose from it might be hard to pick between say, gravestone rubbing and botany. Fret not indecisive ones: there's a quiz at the beginning to get the clueless started and help readers find what they are drawn to and additional activity suggestions for specific personality types.
