New York City's RightRides is a late-night, non-profit service providing free rides to women. It beats costly cab rides and sketchy subway transits we'd otherwise have to endure at 3 a.m. The dispatch number is 718.964.7781. More info at rightrides.org.

Are there services like this in different cities?

Good question. I would love to know if something similar exists in Chicago.

I think DePaul has a ride program for the university...I saw a van dropping off peeps around Diversey last night.

I definitely hope something like this comes to Chicago! Most universities have something like this (Northwestern does too) but I don't think they're available to non-students.

When in doubt, Google it! I tried the the following combination of keywords: women + safe + rides + cities, and came up with some results that are offered to the general public. Seems like a good start.

Scratch that. I looked more closely and it looks like there are Safe Ride programs offered to prevent drunk driving. Maybe us New Yorkers are spoiled once again in another category. Hopefully someone or some city can challenge that. And for the non-drinkers not living in NYC? Time for a change.
