Camille Ikalina-Robles Loves She & Him at Noise Pop

I love Nina Simone. I love the girl-boy groups of the ’50s and ’60s. And I love when I find a band that mixes the sentimentality and passion of Simone and the vocal stylings of decades past. From their MySpace bio, She & Him just might be that band. A collaboration between musician M. Ward and actress Zooey Deschanel, She & Him blends pop and country in a way that’s both familiar and distinctly of this time.

My love for bands like Stars, who work the male-female call and answer style well in their music, and Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins, who reminded me about my love of harmonizing girl groups, have warmed my heart in anticipation of seeing She & Him at Noise Pop this year. The duo headlines the final night of the festival at the Great American Music Hall tonight.

Camille Ikalina-Robles, a Venus Zine writer, is contributing venuszine.com "Staff Favorites" about her most anticipated NoisePop performances from February 27–March 2.
