Katie Heath loves the Midwest Teen Sex Show

The Midwest Teen Sex Show, a monthly podcast filmed in parts of Wisconsin and Illinois, interprets traditional sex education in a way that’s realistic, frank, and severely funny. The host, Nikol Hasler, doesn’t claim to be a source of medical expertise, but as a mother of two before she turned twenty-one, her “trust me” aphorisms hold a lot of credence. The show’s message, one of feminism and honesty, tackles usual “hush-hush” topics that teenagers don’t typically find in the American educational system.

While the episodes are raunchy in sketch comedy fashion – which might account for the large adult audience – their messages are plain, simple, and deadpan: “You may think you’re pretty cool for having an older boyfriend, but they’re not cool for dating you.” In this episode, “The Older Boyfriend,”
Hasler continues, “He’s a loser. And you can find plenty of losers to date in high school.” In the episode “Porn,” Hasler, tidies up a list of all the possible places she recommends stashing it. Other episodes include “Female Masturbation,” “Abstinence,” “Gym Class,” which deals with body image, and “Backdoor Business.” While you may already be schooled in sex, the Midwest Teen Sex Show can at least make you laugh about it. But if you’re not seasoned, or if you suspect some younger dudes or siblings are in heat, then the Midwest Teen Sex Show would be the perfect educational accessory. Plus they might think you’re super cool.

You can find episodes of the Midwest Teen Sex Show on their Web site, or download them for podcast from iTunes.
