I had just gotten back into the habit of wearing jewelry again when I
happened to discover Nichole Moraila’s jewelry company, Mucha Muchacha
(roughly translated to "Too Much [of a] Girl"). I loved her stuff enough
that I bought one of her amazing pieces right away.
Based out of Los Angeles, Moraila makes one-of-a-kind, colorful
necklaces out of fused glass. An example of her work is "Citrus Love,"
a necklace inlaid with ruby red, Valencia orange and
lemon yellow glass. Another is called “By the Sea," which is a
pendant made of swirls of blue, yellow, white and clear fused glass.
On her Etsy page, Moraila talks about falling in love with glass while
she was an antique dealer in the late '90s. Some of her inspiration
came from rich, vibrant fused glass panels called “Rondelays," which
reminded her of glass bottles she had seen in Mexico as a little girl.
Also be sure to check out her blog, Oh, Look What I Made!, as Moraila posts about the L.A. craft scene and gives craft tutorials.
Daniela Garcia is a Venus Zine editorial intern.
