"I come from the small and modest country of Sweden, but there is one thing we're really proud of: our music scene," says reader Emma Karinsdotter. Here, she shares her favorite pop stars and songs from the region.

1. Hello Saferide – “Anna”
Hello Saferide is one of indie Sweden´s best song writers. Behind the alias is the brilliant Annika Norlin who also makes music in Swedish under the name Säkert! This track is about what could have been if not for a stupid boyfriend who wanted to break up.

2. Jenny Wilson – “The Wooden Chair”
Jenny Wilson launched her musical career in the band First Floor Power back in 1997 and released her first solo album, Love and Youth, in 2005. This song is from last year's Hardships. Aside from her tunes, Wilson is known for performing in the most theatrical clothes.

3. Taxi Taxi! – “To Hide This Way”
Music by identical twins and musical whiz-kids Miriam and Johanna Eriksson Berhan, aka Taxi Taxi!.

4. Robyn – “Fembot”
A pioneer who´s been around on the Swedish music scene since she was sixteen, Robyn has been breaking ground abroad over the past few years as well. She started her own record label, Konichiwa Records, because she likes maintaining control. Later this year, she plans to release three new albums, so watch out!

5. First Aid Kit – “You're Not Coming Home Tonight”
Two young sisters with great talent and blood harmony in their voices make up First Aid Kit. This song is from their first EP, Drunken Trees, which they released on Rabid Records before signing with Wichita Recordings.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Once upon a time, Emma Karinsdotter traveled around as a tour manager for theatrical shows and bands. Nowadays, she sits in a big glass house in Stockholm and spends her days planning tours for bands from there—where, she says, "Life is great!" When she's not working, she shops for vintage dresses, eats Italian ice cream, reads gossip magazines about the Swedish Royal House, and watches old episodes of ER.
