Are crafters the new pin-ups?  Issue #31 Issue #31

Atlanta’s DIY leaders make calendar girls

Christy Petterson and Shannon Mulkey, two members of the Atlanta-based Indie Craft Experience Collective (or I.C.E., as they have so coolly dubbed themselves), have developed the “Starlets of Craft” calendar to celebrate the women they call the “celebrities of craft.”

Each month features a different crafter or craft collective, including January’s Austin Craft Mafia, April’s Leah Kramer (founder of Craftster.org), and May’s Heidi Kenney of My Paper Crane. And Ms. July? Come on, we can’t give it all away.

“We are so inspired by everybody who is working hard in the indie craft scene,” Petterson says. “These are amazing ladies doing amazing things. There are so many randomly themed calendars — I saw one this year for hot morticians! We figured the crafty scene deserved one too.”

Proceeds from the calendar will be used to sustain I.C.E., helping them to produce the twice-yearly Indie Craft Experience show in Atlanta and travel to shows in other cities.

Purchase a “Starlets of Craft” calendar at IndieCraftExperience.etsy.com.
