FOR GIRLS ABOUT TO ROCK, WE SALUTE YOU!
There won’t be any color wars at Girls Rock! Chicago’s first-ever urban summer rock camp, but I can’t wait to see the talent show! Following in the footsteps of the über-popular Rock‘n’Roll Camp for Girls in Portland, Oregon, this non-profit organization will host its inaugural camp session August 2–6 on the campus of Chicago’s Roosevelt University. The camp aims to help girls and young women learn to rock and roll, promote their bands, make friends, and develop a strong DIY attitude.
Highlights will include instrument instruction, fun workshops, performances, and the chance to form bands with girls from all over Chicago. Girls ages 9 through 16 from throughout the city are welcome, regardless of musical experience, background, or ability to pay. And even if you’ve just missed the age cut-off to be a camper, you can still be involved as a volunteer. Visit girlsrockchicago.org for more information. P.S. Venus is proud to be a sponsor of the camp.
