Jaime Hamilton is one of the winners of Venus Zine's annual Craft-off Contest, published in the winter 2007 issue of Venus Zine. In the winter issue, we published instructions on how to make a tote bag out of a material concocted from plastic bags. However, we didn't have space to include instructions on how to make the material, so here you go!
Totes Directions
1. Cut two rectangle pieces (out of the fused plastic sheets) and then cut a small square out of each bottom corner.
2. Sew the bottom edge and the sides.
3. The tricky part: Match up the seams at the squared corners. Fold flat and sew it up.
Can You Handle This?
4. Make some handles using a funky trim or create some out of fabric by forming a tube. Cut two matching strips of fabric, fold in half, and sew up the side.
5. Attach the handles to the bag. If you need more stability, you can line the bag with scrap fabric or shoelaces on the top edge of the bag.
