In the Maybe World (Young God)

The delicate nature of Lisa Germano’s recordings has earned her a loyal following. Her songs remain intelligent without pretension and provide the perfect compliment to her shadowy mood music. The songs are subtle and delicately arranged, but never boring. It's a case of the softest voice ringing the loudest in the ears of individuals. And on this — her first recording for Michael Gira's Young God label — she has a lot to say.

In the Maybe World explores the continual cycle of life and death, beginnings and endings, and how each individual must face, accept, and live with the inescapable reality of each. The album is so intimate one almost feels like a voyeur as she sings, but all guilt is assuaged when the album touches so close and resonates in such a profound way for anyone who finds their minds often treading the grounds explored here. Fans of Jeff Buckley may be interested to hear the song "Except for the Ghosts" with its lovely piano, simple lyrics and soothing voice in tribute to him. Lisa produced and arranged the album and plays violin and piano (which often sounds like a long forgotten but once treasured music box playing in the attic of its own volition.)

This is a gorgeous album that will stand the test of time in anyone's collection. In the maybe world, everyone who would identify and benefit from this release will buy it and suck the marrow from its bones — as the album suggests they should similarly do with life and it's lessons.
