Lost Goat is a three-piece San Francisco band featuring two hard-as-nails rocknroll women working together as the tight rhythm section, and a technically skilled male adding the guitar god flourish. The album opens like a powder keg with a track called "Seattle Shakedown," with a smoking guitar riff and solid, powerful drumming topped off with the deep, strong, throaty wail of lead singer/bassist Erica Stoltz.
My favorite track is the "hidden" one at the end of the CD, where they let loose with a Jew's harp and just have fun with a punk-rock/country hootenanny. Perhaps a little less thought and a little more guts are what this band needs to convert me into a believer.
The band is clearly very talented, but honestly, the songs failed to grab me and hold me until the end of the CD. Some songs seemed to drag on for a little too long, winding from one style to another, falling in and out of the groove. I think this is a band that would come across far better in a live performance.
