Lovers and Crypts is for everyone who drives down the freeway listening to the latest 50 Cent and feels a bit guilty about the rampant sexism and homophobia spewing forth from the speakers. Bunny Rabbit, backed by Black Cracker on the decks, may be just as dirty as Ludacris, but when she talks about "strapping it on," I don't think she's talking about clips.
This queer duo isn’t afraid to cross the line just to show that they aren't taking themselves too seriously. "Dirty Dirt" turns from a sexy lullaby to a rant about cutting down "all the beautiful things" and putting up ugly construction. But these Brooklynites don't preach for long. "Dolphins" is a tongue-in-cheek song about how fun it is to shoot dolphins. They have a message, but they aren't going to shove it down our throats, so to speak.
Bunny Rabbit’s sound isn’t exactly original — yeah, it's a lot like Peaches, whose lyrics are mimicked on a couple of tracks — and sometimes the rhymes fall short, but that isn’t the point. Sexism isn’t going to disappear from mainstream rap any time soon, but Bunny Rabbit is doing her best to level the playing field. She’ll help you ease that guilt while you’re popping and locking to the likes of this self-proclaimed "Pussy Queen."
