Suffrajett

Suffrajett (In Music We Trust)

Even though their debut CD isn't quite the "raw rocknroll" they promise, Suffrajett has surely mastered the art of a catchy guitar riff. The vocals and guitar are by far the strongest components of this record. The sugary voice of Simi, the lead singer, is a little bit Gwen Stefani and a little bit PJ Harvey. On some of the songs like "love me more," her voice takes the bite out of her sassy lyrics and on others like "cry baby" it makes the song sound like the perfect pop anthem.

The only weakness of this recording is that Simi and guitarist, Jason Chasko, are backed by an almost inaudible bassline and drumbeats that are repetitive and suffer from overuse of the crash cymbal. Perhaps this is the fault of a treble-loving producer, but either way a little more low end could do wonders for Suffrajett.
