Jean Grae's Top 5 Worst Albums  Issue #37 Issue #37

Jean Grae has never been one to do things the easy way. True to form, when we asked the New York–based MC to list her favorite albums, she submitted a guide to her most hated. “These albums all inspired me to not make albums like them,” says Grae, who released her fourth full-length, Jeanius, in July. “They are really effective.”

1. FannyPack, So Stylistic
“I hate this album. I hated the single ‘Cameltoe.’ I don’t think I have to explain why. I want to clothesline all of them and kick them off a very high cliff. I’m glad they went away.”

2. Common, Electric Circus
“I like Common, I do — a lot. He can rhyme his face off and he’s a lovely person. We even played cheese basketball. However, this album caught the wind of the car window. What the hell was this shit?”

3. Shwayze, Shwayze
“You know how people say, ‘I wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire?’ I would piss on them. Not to put the fire out though; I would pee on an area that was not on fire, only to further upset their burning bodies.”

4. Jay-Z, The Blueprint 2
“I love Mr. Carter — The Blueprint is amazing. The man is amazing, and so incredibly influential and gifted and creative. Taking music, hip-hop culture, and business to a new level. But dude, this album really made me angry. I will highlight these songs that were great: ‘Excuse Me Miss,’ ‘The Bounce,’ ‘Meet the Parents.’”

5. Wyclef Jean, The Carnival
“I love the Fugees. I may not love Pras and his ‘biddi-bee-bo’ type rhymes, but just as a group, they were the shilznohilznahbilznob. Wyclef ... I ... I ... no man. Just, no. Also, don’t sing ‘Oooobaama.’ That’s not on this album, but I heard it recently and it made me wanna kick his ass all over again.”
