“Miss Macro” appropriately features a fanfare of trumpets that serve to announce the arrival of this tongue twister from down-under. By the time the third track “Scorch” hits, you’re dizzy, sick, and still tripping over Macros phrases. Where else can you hear Lemony Snicket paired with Melanie Griffith in the same context? But the best is yet to come as a simple rhythm modification puts “Eerily Spookily” on high and further boasts Macro’s lyrical agility as “Vaudeville,” which recalls early Tricky, displays Hoffman’s falsetto and uses mental instability to further push the envelope: “Back off, my mental disorder was put there on purpose / I was told just sit here, look scared and nervous.”
Truth be told, I could go on and on about Moments in Movement. Did I mention “Locksmith” features rap accomplice, Sage Francis, and utilizes a Speak and Spell? Lady Sovereign helped put the ladies of grime on the map, but Macro could outdo her with witty, woven words any day. Sorry, SOV.
