Time To Grow (2 DefPig)

With Time To Grow, The Lovell Sisters have proven that, although they are all under the age of 25 and on the verge of releasing their second album, mature vocals and tight-laced harmonies aren't only executed by the pros. The sisters are a classically trained, sweet-faced trio hailing from Calhoun, Georgia. With roots in bluegrass and classical music, Jessica, Megan, and Rebecca Lovell have managed to blend folk, country, and acoustics into one fortified, eclectic sound.

The ladies offer a far-from-dull, 11-track album, packed with accessible Southern charm. Memorable songs include the acoustic-guitar driven "Paulita Maxwell" and the melodic ballad "Distance." Time To Grow also delivers two welcome departures in instrumentals: the frenetically wired "Ichetucknee Chutney" and the unplugged, string epic "The Door In The Wall."

The Lovell Sisters are indie girls at heart — artists that opted out of a major record label deal for the sole purpose of maintaining creative control over their songwriting. As co-producers of their sophomore release, the band features five original songs and showcases their polished musicianship through the extensive display of Jessica on fiddle, Megan on dobro, and Rebecca on guitar and mandolin. The Lovells define their sound as "progressive rock," which is appropriate to a certain extent — but perhaps less rock and more sophisticated pop with an Alison Krauss undertone.
