If you are waiting for a new Ida CD this is as close as it's gonna get for a little bit, but what an album this is! Angel Hall features a lineup that would make any true music fan weep -- a night with Ida, Low, His Name is Alive, and the Secret Stars at a New York show to benefit the South Brooklyn Legal Services HIV Project. One concert by any of these bands is breathtaking, so imagine an entire evening with all four of these bands. From start to finish you can hear the creaks in the chairs, the low, hushed voices talking, and the loud claps that resonate in the audience after each song. It really is a captivating piece of anguish and movement. This CD captures what is amazing about live shows, what is amazing about these musicians -- the subtle mistakes and the little things that a show offers that recorded studio tracks cannot. It gives you a glimpse into the beauty of a shoegazing night. The low bass plays, the violin sways back and forth, and tempo never gets away from the metronome. This is an album to play under the moonlight of the stars for sure, one that will make you romantic when that seems impossible.
