Morella's Forest

Tiny Lights of Heaven (Endearing/Big Beef)

Morella's Forest used to sound like a cross between onetime Tooth & Nail labelmates Velour 100 and Royal but on its latest, Tiny Lights of Heaven, the band sounds a little less impromptu and a little more predictable. It is making pop music for the future. Morella's Forest sounds a little like Letters to Cleo and Sydney Rentz's vocals are reminiscent of Leigh Nash from Sixpence None the Richer.

Morella's Forest has potential, but doesn't fulfill it on this CD. A little aggression could have gone a long way, but the band instead stuck to the pop path that is traveled more frequently these days. Pop music is apparently stuck in everyone's head, but I'm confused as to why. If you enjoy pure pop-drenched music, then by all means pick this disc up, but remember there is great music out there! Please seek out amazing music, especially if you are writing music yourself!
