Name & age: Sarah La Fern Bare, 24
Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
What I do: Sew clothes as part of a local clothing collective called Fasten, yoga, help my boyfriend organize his business (Sure Seal Roofing), and learn a lot about how small, independent businesses run.
The best part of where I live is: that it's not far from the woods to the north or the bustling cities to the south. Milwaukee's a little bit of both and I love it!
My shameful/shameless hippie secret is: there are long stretches of winter months where my legs do not come in contact with a razor.
My plan is to use my bachelor’s degree in art/art education with a minor in sociology/women’s studies by: opening an alternative school that focuses on hands-on methods and the arts.
Most of my spare time is dedicated to: drawing sketches for my next sewing series and plans for the best Halloween costume ever [Note: We asked her these questions in October]!
My favorite thing about pop culture is: it changes so frequently. It is fluid. It is whimsical.
I read Venus Zine for: its great artist write-ups.
I think I was chosen as Reader of the Ish because: I am funny looking — just kidding. Maybe I was picked because I'm a true-blue, modern woman representing the Midwest with pride!
If today was my last day on earth I would: go skydiving, run naked through downtown, create my best painting, and meditate on how great my life has been.
