Are you organized and eager to learn? If so, you should apply for a Venus Zine editorial internship. The edit internship is best suited for candidates who hope to work as editors or writers. Please send cover letter, resume, and three to five writing samples to Amy Schroeder at amy [at] venuszine.com.

Promotions & Business Internship
This internship is ideal for marketing, business, and music management majors. SEND YOUR MUSIC TO VENUS ZINE
Several editors are involved in the process of considering music for review in the magazine and venuszine.com. We receive a large number of CDs in the mail, but we do our absolute best to listen to everything we receive. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that we can cover everything that we receive. Venus Zine focuses on women in music, but we cover men too. Keep in mind that timeliness is a key factor of our decision-making process. For instance, for our spring 2008 issue of Venus Zine, whose on-sale date is March 1, 2008, we will review albums with release dates between late January 2008 and April 2008. Albums released before late January 2008 will be considered for review on venuszine.com.

Thanks for reading all of that. Let's get started. For coverage consideration in Venus Zine, or venuszine.com please send music (be sure to include your album's release date on your press release) to:

CONTRIBUTE TO THE MAGAZINE

Up Front
Venus Zine's Up Front section features scoop on fresh, timely, and intriguing subjects that do not fit into the magazine's other sections. In order to write for the Up Front section, you need to be able to rock the art of writing short ó section word counts are usually 75 to 250. Examples of previously published writeups include the Modern Garage Movement, the trend of young women getting into the sport of shooting, and the death of Punk Planet magazine. In addition to Up Front's blurb pieces, the section features regular columns such as ìScene & Unheardî (which profiles music scenes around the world), ìRecord Shopping With [insert band name here],î and ìDown To Businessî (which profiles female-owned businesses). Contact Up Front Editor Amy Westervelt at amyw [at] venuszine.com.

Essays
For this section, we are seeking personal narratives (written in first-person voice) about experiences that have changed your life; humor pieces about your job/relationship/friendship/travel experience/you name it; political/social/cultural observations that make you happy or piss you off. This is an open submissions section; please e-mail your submission as a Word document or pasted into the body of an e-mail. Word count: 800 to 1,600. Please e-mail to Amy Schroeder at amy [at] venuszine.com.

Arteest
If you are interested in profiling artists or covering other art topics such as interesting exhibits, museums, and arts resources, please send story ideas to Amy Schroeder at amy [at] venuszine.com.

Penus
We cover cool dudes in this section. We're seeking short profiles on musicians, actors, comedians, writers, etc. We also publish the occasional book/album/film/whatever review, and we're always open to creative concept pieces. E-mail Amy Schroeder at amy [at] venuszine.com.

Music Features
Do you know a helluva lot about music? Are you a good interviewer (i.e., you don't ask the same-old same-old questions such as ìWhat are your influences?î and ìWhat's your favorite color?î)? If so, get in touch with Amy Schroeder at amy [at] venuszine.com.

Film
If you have experience writing about film and TV and wish to review films or profile actors and directors, please get in touch with Amy Schroeder at amy [at] venuszine.com. Please submit developed story ideas. We appreciate that you take the time to do the legwork of setting up interviews with actors before getting in touch with us.

Reads
The Reads section features book reviews, author profiles, and our regular &slqou;Mad Lit&srquo; column, in which authors fill out a mad lib-style Q&A about their favorite books. If you know your lit, get in touch with Reads Editor Ling Ma at ling [at] venuszine.com.

DIY
Starting with the fall 2007 issue of Venus Zine, the DIY section will have a special theme for each issue. In some cases, we will announce the theme in advance (we'll either promote the topic in the magazine or on our Web site), but in some cases it will be a surprise. Unsolicited submissions are welcome, and we do our best to read and respond to submissions within two to six weeks of receiving them. If you are a solid writer or crafter interested in writing how-to pieces or short profiles or blurbs about DIY artists and trends, send your writing samples and story ideas to DIY Editor Justina Blakeney at justina [at] venuszine.com.

Fashion
Our fashion editor, Constanze Han, sets up all of our fashion shoots, but if you're interested in writing brief profiles of edgy and up-and-coming fashion designers, please e-mail your ideas and samples of your writing to Amy Schroeder at amy [at] venuszine.com.

Sounds (music reviews)
If you are interested in writing music reviews, please e-mail two samples of your criticism to the music reviews editor, K. Tighe, at tighe [at] venuszine.com.

Illustrations & Photography
Please send samples (jpegs or URLs) of illustrations and photography via e-mail to Art Director Denise Gibson at denise [at] venuszine.com. Please do not send portfolios via mail. We cannot return unsolicited materials. If you wish to send a postcard, please mail to:
