SEND YOUR MUSIC TO VENUS ZINE
Several editors are involved in the process of considering music for review in the magazine and venuszine.com. We receive a large number of CDs in the mail, but we do our absolute best to listen to everything we receive. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that we can cover everything that we receive. Venus Zine focuses on women in music, but we cover men too. Keep in mind that timeliness is a key factor of our decision-making process. For instance, for our spring 2008 issue of Venus Zine, whose on-sale date is March 1, 2008, we will review albums with release dates between late January 2008 and April 2008. Albums released before late January 2008 will be considered for review on venuszine.com.
Thanks for reading all of that. Let's get started. For coverage consideration in Venus Zine or venuszine.com please send music (be sure to include your album's release date on your press release) to:

CONTRIBUTE TO VENUS ZINE AND VENUSZINE.COM
Are you a talented writer, photographer, illustrator, or videographer? If so, we'd love to work with you.
When contacting Venus Zine editors, be sure to include information about yourself, including your contact information and your writing/photography/etc. experience. Please include applicable samples of your writing work (no poetry or term papers, please). We prefer to view Web site URLs, but attachments work too.
CONTRIBUTE TO VENUSZINE.COM
Please contact the appropriate section editor with writing samples and a brief introductory email. If interested in writing about music, please include a list of your favorite bands and musicians. For cultural pieces, we're particularly interested in clever how-to pieces, cultural trend pieces, and short profiles on crafters, artists, and creative entrepreneurs. Videographers, please send a link to prior videos and a brief letter of intro to tighe [at] venuszine.com.
CONTRIBUTE TO THE MAGAZINE
Up Front
Venus Zine's Up Front section includes light, pithy pieces on rising trends, cultural phenomenon, and other timely subjects of interest to our readers. Examples of previously published pieces include the Modern Garage Movement, the trend of young women getting into the sport of shooting, and the death of Punk Planet magazine. In addition to Up Front's blurb pieces, the section features regular columns such as "Scene & Unheard" (which profiles music scenes around the world), "Record Shopping With [insert band name here]," and "How'd You Get That Cool Job?" Contact K. Tighe tighe [at] venuszine.com.
Arteest
If you are interested in profiling artists or covering other art topics such as interesting exhibits, museums, and arts resources, please send story ideas to K. Tighe at tighe [at] venuszine.com.
Penus
We cover cool dudes in this section. We're seeking short profiles on musicians, actors, comedians, writers, etc. We also publish the occasional book/album/film/whatever review, and we're always open to creative concept pieces. E-mail Kelly Mellott at kelly [at] venuszine.com.
Music Features
Do you know a helluva lot about music? Are you a good interviewer (i.e., you don't ask the same-old same-old questions such as "What are your influences?" and "What's your favorite color?")? If so, get in touch with K. Tighe at tighe [at] venuszine.com.
Film
If you have experience writing about film and TV and wish to review films or profile actors and directors, please get in touch with K. Tighe at tighe [at] venuszine.com. Please submit developed story ideas.
Reads
The Reads section features book reviews, author profiles, and other lit-inspired pieces. Pitches about comic books, blogs, and literary trends are encouraged. If you know your books, get in touch with Reads Editor Ling Ma at ling [at] venuszine.com.
DIY
The DIY section has a special theme for each issue. In some cases, we will announce the theme in advance (we'll either promote the topic in the magazine or on our Web site), but in some cases it will be a surprise. Unsolicited submissions are welcome, and we do our best to read and respond to submissions within two to six weeks of receiving them. If you are a solid writer or crafter interested in writing how-to pieces or short profiles or blurbs about DIY artists and trends, send your writing samples and story ideas to DIY Editor Justina Blakeney at justina [at] venuszine.com.
Fashion
If you're interested in writing brief profiles of edgy and up-and-coming fashion designers, emerging trends in the industry, or any fashion-related web content, please e-mail your ideas and samples of your writing to K. Tighe at tighe [at] venuszine.com.
Sounds (music reviews)
If you are interested in writing music reviews, please e-mail two samples of your criticism, 3-5 timely pitches, and a list of your favorite bands to K. Tighe, at tighe [at] venuszine.com.
Illustrations & Photography
Please send samples (jpegs or URLs) of illustrations and photography via e-mail to Art Director Denise Gibson at denise [at] venuszine.com. Please do not send portfolios via mail. We cannot return unsolicited materials. We do accept pitches for fashion editorial spreads for venuszine.com. If you wish to send a postcard, please mail to:
